The purpose of the consultation policy and related activities is to indicate the limitations and reasons for these restrictions, both in terms of clarity and in general. Guidance and other external professional activities can be an important tool for the continuing education of the faculty and provide them with money and experience in aspects of their profession outside the context of the university itself. These activities can also provide a mechanism for transferring knowledge from the university to the common good. While such qualities of the Faculty of Guidance may make better scientists and teachers, the employer-employee nature of the consultation process has the potential to divert the faculty from its primary activities and responsibilities. That is why the fundamental principle of this political statement is that there must be a limit to the time a member of stanford`s faculty can devote to guidance. The following limitations are intended to strike a balance between the orientation and functions of the faculty that are common within the university and to protect the interests of both parties. As a general rule, counselling is defined as a professional activity related to the individual`s field or discipline where there is a paid or equivalent relationship with a third party. Many types of faculty activities, with a non-duty at university, are not “consultative.” It turns out that in the event of a conflict between the provisions of a advisory agreement and the terms and conditions of employment of University staff or other Stanford teachers, Stanford is a priority. The following sentence (or similar sentence) should be included in the external orientation agreements of university staff or other teaching staff: “The conditions of employment and appointment by Stanford University and the provisions of an agreement between Stanford and external sponsors of projects on which the consultant works in the course of his academic duties are given priority in the event of a conflict with the provisions of this agreement.” On September 7, 2010, the University of Provost asked the Faculty to provide a summary of Stanford University`s requirements for faculty advisory activities and agreements when they enter into a advisory or confidentiality agreement. Non-discloser agreements (NDAs) can occur as part of consulting work (and are therefore generally outside your responsibility at Stanford) or, less often, as part of academic research. If the agreement relates to your research activity at Stanford, Stanford may negotiate an NDA as part of a research agreement as long as it does not significantly limit the ability of others to participate in the intellectually important parts of your research and as long as it does not limit the publication of your results (see the opening of Stanford`s research policy). The annual report and certification form invites you to disclose the agreements you have made yourself without the participation of appropriate university offices.
