Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the opening ceremony of the NH-19 Varanasi-Prayagraj part of the six-lane extension project in Varanasi. Highlights: ♦ The recently widened six-lane NH-19 has a total length of 73 kilometers and a total investment of 24.47 billion rupees, which is expected to reduce the travel time between Prayagraj and Varanasi by one hour. ♦ Dev Deepawali has become varanasi`s famous festival of light and passion and is celebrated every year during Caricature Month. ♦ Prime Minister Modi will also attend Dev Deepawali, visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor project and also visit the archaeological site of Sarnath. ♦ Unprecedented work has been carried out on new highways, viaducts and widening roads to reduce traffic congestion in and around Varanasi. ♦ Farmers would benefit greatly from the extension of modern connectivity in the region. He said black rice was imported to Chandauli two years ago to increase farmers` incomes. Last year, a peasant committee was formed and about 400 peasants received this rice for cultivation during the kharif season. ♦ While normal rice is sold for Rs 35-40 per kg, this black rice has been sold for up to Rs 300 per kg.
